MOGADISHU (SD) – Somalia’s Gorgor Special Forces have launched an operation in Lower Shabelle region where Al-Shabaab militants are said to be active.

The operation was carried out in Barire, Toratorow, Mubarak, Sham-garre and Jowhar-yarey areas, which are under the control of Aw-dheegle district in Lower Shabelle region.

The commander of the 17th Battalion of the Gorgor Command, Colonel Dayah Abdi Abdulle, said six al-Shabaab members were captured during the operation.

Colonel Dayah Abdi Abdulle added that they will continue the operation until Al-Shabaab is expelled from Lower Shabelle region.

“In some areas we have met with little resistance and the enemy has suffered casualties. Our forces are safe and operations will continue,” added Colonel Dayah Abdi Abdulle.
