ANKARA (SD) – The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia Hassan Sheikh Mohamud had a fruitful meeting with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the Presidential Palace in Ankara today.

The President pointed out that the Turkish government has shown its full support to the people and government of Somalia, at a time when they were struggling with a difficult situation, coming to their rescue when they needed it most.

“I would like to take this opportunity to call upon our Turkish brothers to support us and do what they can, as they did before. Your solidarity and support will save the lives of the Somali people and will never be forgotten,” President Hassan said at a joint presser with Erdogan.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud noted that the government of Turkey is playing an important role in strengthening security, training, capacity building of the Somali army and the fight against terrorism.

“During my meeting with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, we agreed to strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation, especially in the areas of security, economy, trade development, investment and culture. Somalia views Turkey as a partner and a trusted friend who is trusted by the Somali people.” President Hassan said.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan vowed that his government will play a key role in drought relief, rebuilding infrastructure, strengthening trade and investment agreements.
