MOGADISHU (SD) – Former Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has been elected as Somalia’s new 10th president of Somalia.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud won with 214 votes, while President Farmajo got 110 and 3 spoiled votes.

The speaker of Somalia’s parliament Sheikh Adan Madobe announced that the new president of Somalia is Hassan Shaikh Mohamud.

Opposition votes seem to have coalesced in ousting the incumbent President Mohamed Farmajo.

The new President of the Federal Republic of Somalia Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has been sworn in as the new President of the Federal Republic of Somalia.

Former Somali President Mohamed Farmajo has congratulated the newly elected president of Somalia.

The voting today brings an end to a volatile indirect election process which resulted in the extension of the presidential term.
