Minnesota (SD) – Congresswoman Ilhan Omar defeated her heavily-funded opponent Antone Melton-Meaux in the first round of the 5th District seat election in Minneapolis.

The primary election, held in Minnesota’s 5th district was heavily contested by four other well funded candidates.

Ilham posted her victory on the first round of the democratic primary on her Twitter account.

Ilhan Omar, a Somali-American, became the first hijab wearing member of the US House of Representatives in 2018 and the second female Muslim in Congress.
