Japan donated mine detection technology to Somalia

MOGADISHU (SD) The Government of Japan has officially donated advanced equipment crucial for police operations in Somalia, particularly for the mine detection unit. This donation, consisting of the latest technology, will be handed over to the Somali Police Force and is vital for strengthening the police’s ability to combat explosive devices.

General Asad Osman Abdullahi, the Commander of the Somali Police Force, expressed his gratitude to the Government of Japan for their valuable support. He specifically mentioned the importance of this equipment, stating that it is essential for preventing explosive devices and is part of the efforts to enhance the police force’s mine detection capabilities.

This modern equipment, designed to improve the effectiveness of the police in countering explosions, is part of broader plans by the Somali Government to develop the police force’s capabilities. The United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS) is also supporting these efforts by providing training and advanced techniques to strengthen anti-mine operations.

General Asad Osman Abdullahi noted that this equipment arrived at a crucial time when the police needed it, highlighting the importance of international support for Somalia.

Japan is one of the countries that consistently supports Somalia’s development and stability, particularly in security and counter-explosion efforts. This step reflects the strong relationship between the two countries, with Japan ready to continue its support in various areas, especially in providing equipment and training to enhance the country’s security services.
