KISMAYO (SD)The new Jubaland Regional State Parliament has recently elected a new speaker in Kismayo, the interim capital of Jubaland, following an election whose result was known in advance.
Two candidates vied for the position of Speaker of the Jubaland Parliament: Abdi Mohamed Abdirahman, who had previously held the position, and another candidate, MP Ismail Abdi Keeroy.
In the election, MP Abdi Mohamed Abdirahman won with 65 votes, while MP Ismail Abdi Keeroy received only 7 votes, and two votes were invalid.
This marks the third time that Abdi Mohamed Abdirahman has been elected as Speaker of the Jubaland Parliament, a position he has held for over 10 years, coinciding with the presidency of Jubaland’s President, Ahmed Madobe.
The election for the President of Jubaland is scheduled to take place in Kismayo on the 25th of this month. As widely expected, President Ahmed Mohamed Islam (Madobe) is set to win.
