Somalia’s International Partners concerned about rift between Feds and Jubaland

MOGADISHU (SD) – The International Partners are concerned about the escalating conflict between the Federal Government and the Jubaland Regional State, following the recent meeting of the National Consultative Council (NCC).

We encourage all stakeholders to participate in meaningful, inclusive discussions regarding the election process. The Jubaland Regional Government is urged to return to the NCC for an open dialogue on all pending issues and to restore relations with the Federal Government.

We encourage all parties to avoid creating further tension and to restart open discussions before the completion of any electoral process.

The international partners support Somalia in advancing its state-building agenda, which includes the ambition to move forward with a one-person, one-vote election through an inclusive electoral system.

This involves gaining both public and political support, improving election processes, and establishing a feasible, time-bound schedule for elections that are inclusive, widely accepted, transparent, and that ensure national security and stability.
