Kismayo (SD) – Jubbaland President Ahmed Mohamed Islam (Ahmed Madobe) has set strict conditions on the upcoming federal parliamentary elections in Garbaharey, Gedo region.
Speaking at the opening of the third session of the Jubbaland House of Representatives, Ahmed Madobe said that without the withdrawal of the Federal Government forces from Gedo region, the parliamentary elections in Garbaharey will not take place.
The Jubbaland president called for a solution to the dispute between the federal government and Jubbaland in Gedo.
The recent election process agreement between President Farmajo and state leaders allocates 16 MPs will be elected in Garbaharey, the capital of Gedo region.
The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia and the President of the Jubbaland State of Somalia have repeatedly discussed ways to resolve the long-running dispute, but the talks have not been successful.
Political and security tensions between the Federal Government and Jubbaland have been simmering in Gedo region for some time, resulting in population displacement.
