Government employees to go through background checks

Mogadishu (SD) – The Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs of the Federal Government of Somalia announced that the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) will vet all employees of government offices.

According to the announcement, the investigation was security-related, and all government employees were notified, by the offices of NISA, the prime minister and the president were also notified.

The letter, dated October 3, was signed by Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Sadiq Hirsi Warfa, and called on government agencies to co-operate with the National Security and Intelligence Agency.

“I respectfully request all federal government agencies to co-operate with the National Security and Intelligence Agency, which will conduct security checks on all government employees, through interviews and registration, to ensure the safety of staff and government facilities, ”the statement said.

Somalia’s insecurity is in part due to lack of vetted government employees including officials and soldiers.

The move is an attempt to improve security and stability within the government and it public facilities.
