Kismayo (SD) – Reports from Kismayo, the capital of the Jubbaland administration, say that Khalif Hashim Nur, a member of the regional parliament, was killed after an explosion ripped through his car.
The lawmaker left his residence in Kismayo this evening in his car, but shortly after leaving his home, he was hit by an explosion.
Lawmaker Khalif Hashim Nur became a member of the 2nd Jubbaland parliament, and was a former member of the Jubbaland armed forces.
The Jubbaland Security Agency says it has foiled a terrorist attack this week, which targeting a businessman in Kismayo, after thwarting a car bomb.
Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the bombing, confirming the bomb was attached to car of deceased lawmaker.
The President of the Jubaland State of Somalia, HE Ahmed Mohamed Islam, has sent his condolences to the family and friends of Khalif Hashim Nur.
However, lawmaker Khalif Hashim Nur will be the first lawmaker to die at the hands of militant group this year.
