Mandera Feb 04, 2023 (SD) – The Kenyan government has announced that the reopening of the Mandhera border with Somalia is underway.
Kenya stated that the opening of the border is part of efforts to improve border security and combat illegal trade.
This step by Kenya is the result of high-level discussions between the two countries, Somalia and Kenya.
Kenya’s Internal Security Minister, Kithure Kindiki, during a visit to the city of Mandhera in North-Eastern Kenya, stated that the reopening of the border between Somalia and Kenya will greatly improve border security.
In 2012, the Kenyan government closed all land borders with Somalia to counter attacks by Al-Shabaab within Kenya.
