Mogadishu (SD) – One person has been confirmed dead in an airstrike last night in Ceel-Cade area of Gedo region, according to residents.
The bombing is believed to have been carried out by Kenyan warplanes, hit a family of six, killing the mother and injuring five children.
Residents say Kenyan forces have also shelled five other regions in Gedo, the exact number of casualties could not be ascertained due to the lack of telecommunications in some areas.
Kenyan troops, part of the African Union Mission in Somalia, have been accused of carrying out shelling in the Juba and Gedo regions as they have killed several pastoralists in the past.
Kenyan forces in Somalia have repeatedly denied allegations of civilian casualties and claims to be in Somalia on a UN mandate to fight al-Shabaab.
Neither the Federal Government of Somalia, the Jubbaland Administration nor the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) have commented on the latest shelling in the Gedo region of southern Somalia.
