NAIROBI (SD) – The Kenyan security forces have announced that they have killed several militants belonging to the Al-Shabaab group, who were based in an area called Kumba in the Lamu region near the border between Somalia and Kenya.
According to reports from the Kenyan police, the security forces engaged in a fierce battle with armed attackers in a remote area where suspected Al-Shabaab members were located, resulting in the deaths of Six individuals believed to be members of Al-Shabaab.
The police also stated that the Al-Shabaab operatives had launched attacks using grenades and other important weapons, indicating ongoing threats posed by the group that was targeted.
Some of the Al-Shabaab members who were attacked are reported to have fled the scene, and the police are expressing concerns about the potential repercussions of their escape.
Furthermore, the Kenyan police mentioned that one of the slain militants affiliated with the Al-Shabaab group was identified as a foreigner, not of Somali or Kenyan origin, while those killed in the security operation were not identified by their names or backgrounds.
The operation against the Al-Shabaab group followed intelligence received by the Kenyan authorities indicating that the militants, based in the Boni Forest area, were planning to carry out attacks.
