Kulmiye insists on disbanding political parties, silent on presidential election

HARGEISA (SD) – Somaliland President Muse Bihi Abdi, has today reiterated his desire to extend his term in office and in disbanding the country’s national parties from the political arena.

The president of Somaliland made the remarks at a ceremony marking the 20th anniversary of the formation of the ruling party Kulmiye.

The president said that the Kulmiye party supports the opening of associations and that it is a legal issue, which is not the case.

“Today I support the competition of the political associations, and we are implementing that and the associations are being registered, and is in principle legal.” Bihi told Kulmiye supporters.

The president, in addition to supporting the opening of the political associations, the president did not comment on fate of the November presidential election, where he is at loggerheads with the opposition parties.

Somaliland president’s decision to possible postpone the November 13,2022 presidential election could lead to the collapse of democracy and widespread stability.
