Mogadishu September 20, 2023 (SD) – The UK has announced a substantial financial support of 5 million pounds sterling for the Somali security forces, aimed at bolstering the efforts of the Somali National Army, which is being assisted by the United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS).
The new funding was confirmed during a meeting between the Somali National Security Advisor, Hussein Sheikh Ali, and the Deputy National Security Advisor of the UK for International Affairs, Dame Sarah MacIntosh, during her visit to Somalia last week, as stated in a statement released by the UK government.
“The security partnership between the UK and Somalia is crucial in achieving stability and peace in Somalia and the region. The UK will continue to support the relentless efforts of Somalia in combating terrorism and promoting the consolidation of security in the areas that have been recovered by the government,” said Dame Sarah.
The UK statement also emphasized, “The partnership between the UK and Somalia in security, economic development, and progress is vital for a prosperous future for Somalia.”
The UK has expressed its commitment to providing support to the Somali government to ensure a peaceful and stable Somalia.
