Minister Kahin: No more traditional resolution to rape crimes

Hargeisa (SD) – The Somaliland Minister of Interior Mohamed Kahin Ahmed, today announced that the government will crack down on rape crimes in the country.

The minister added that they are opposed to any traditional resolution to rape cases, instead he proclaimed all rape crimes will be dealt with in accordance with the law of the land.

Speaking at a conference to assess the development of services in the country, the interior minister said they were opposed to resolving rape cases in a traditional way as the rights of the victims were being violated.

He added that anyone attempting to resolve rape cases through the traditional process would be prosecuted.

The Minister of Interior of Somaliland, Hon. Mohamed Kahin Ahmed, sent his condolences to the family and friends of the late Ugbad Ali Abdi, a mother of three who was recently killed in Burao during an allegedly rape attempt.
