Hargeisa (SD) – The Somaliland government announces it has now banned the inauguration of new traditional leaders.
Somaliland Minister of Interior Mohamed Kahin Ahmed met with Somaliland governors in Hargeisa today and instructed them to take action against any new chiefs.
“As of now, new chiefs are banned, and no more signs will be erected in any region,” said Mohamed Kahin.
“We now know that some political parties are behind it. We will take action against the opposition and the government. The law is the same for all people and it will be enforced.” Added Mohamed Kahin.
Somaliland, like other parts of Somalia, has seen an increase in the number of inauguration ceremonies for new Chiefs in recent years, most of which are politically motivated.
