Mortar shells hit Mogadishu neighborhoods

Mogadishu (SD) – Some districts in Somalia’s capital region were hit by random mortars tonight, the source of which is still unknown.

No casualties have been reported so far, and the federal government has described the shelling as non-lethal, and accused al-Shabaab creating insecurity.

The mortars hit parts of Hamar-Jajab, Waberi, Boondheere, Warta Nabada, Wadajir and Shangaani districts, all in the Somali capital region.

Somali police spokesman Major Sadiq Doodishe said in a statement, “At around 20:20 pm, the terrorists made a disturbance, with the sound of an explosion but no casualties.”

The capital city was liberated from al-Shabaab in 2012, but eight years later in 2020, they are still disrupting the nations capital region.
