Mogadishu (SD) – In a press statement, the Somali national coalition parties have called on the federal government to investigate allegations that Somalia’s national intelligence’s Al Shabab links.
“The National Party Forum is very concerned about the recent data and reports about the relationship and cooperation between the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) and the terrorist organization Al-Shabaab, which has raised doubts and fears among the Somali people,” the statement said.
The opposition asks for an independent investigation into last year’s attack on Mogadishu Mayor’s office, in which Mayor Eng. Yarisow was killed, alleged conversations between NISA and Al-Shabab figures, and NISA’s social media account for personal use.
The coalition also demanded that individuals with political agendas be removed from NISA leadership and replaced with professional agents. The coalition expressed concern about NISA career agents being replaced with individuals with political agenda.
The coalitions statement was addressed to the President, the Speaker of the House, the Speaker of the Upper House, the Prime Minister of the Somali Government and to the Attorney General.
