National Security Forum accuses Farmajo of neglecting troops

Mogadishu (SD) – A statement from the Somalia’s National Salvation Forum strongly criticized President Farmajo, accusing him of neglecting the national army, praising the forces attacked in Barire and Awdheegle, and offered condolences to the families of the fallen soldiers.

“Images and reports of terrorist attacks on the army show how the outgoing president has neglected the troops in front lines. It is also clear that he has deployed most of the troops to Mogadishu to suppress dissent. Many troops, weapons and other anti-terrorism recourses have been transferred to Gedo region, fueling civil strife in the area, which resulted in much bloodshed.” Said the Forum’s statement.

The statement added, “The Forum also blames the outgoing president, that the Somali National Intelligence Agency, whose primary mission was to report on the activities of Al Shabaab, has neglected its national mandate. NISA’s negligence has given terrorists the opportunity to attack troops on the battlefield and to carry out suicide bombings in Mogadishu.”

The Forum called for the withdrawal of the army from the political arena, in order to fulfill its national duty and gain the support of all citizens and politicians.

“The forum calls for the immediate deployment of reinforcements, weapons and supplies to the forces in today’s attacked bases and other positions that may be vulnerable to the enemy, to be able to defend themselves and the people from the enemies of the Somali people, Al Shabaab terrorists.” concluded the National Security Forum statement.
