Bossaso (SD) – Details are emerging from heavy fighting between Puntland regional forces and Daesh militants in the mountainous Bari region where the group was hiding.
The fighting took place in a village 15 km from Bal-i-dhidhin district after Puntland special forces launched an operation in the area, and heavy fighting broke out there causing various casualties.
Residents said they saw Puntland forces engaged in heavy fighting with insurgents.
A Puntland PFS official said troops had seized a vehicle carrying explosives and weapons belonging to the Somali Islamic State group, although no independent source had confirmed the troops’ reports.
Latest news from the war-torn areas of Bari region indicate the region is currently calm, government and military activities continue in the region.
Daish militants have not yet commented on the recent fighting in the mountainous regions of Puntland.
