Mogadishu (SD) – A meeting between the Speaker of the Upper House Abdi Hashi and the Deputy Prime Minister of Somalia Mahdi Guled took place in Mogadishu today, discussing the dispute over the Northern Parliamentary Elections Discussed.
Mahdi Guled reportedly proposed to Abdi Hashi to nominate three members to the Northern Regions Electoral Commission, but Abdi Hashi declined.
Hashi, for his part, suggested that a new committee be appointed to oversee the administration of the Northern Regional Parliamentary Elections.
The meeting ended in a stalemate, with a dispute over the northern regions expected to be resolved at a Dhusamareb conference.
Representatives from Northern regions of Somalia, a region that declared independence from Somalia are at odds over how to select members of the federal electoral commissions.
