DHUSAMAREB (SD) – Somali army has today displayed bodies of eight al-Shabaab militants who were killed in last night operation in Dhusamareeb town.
Ahmed Maalim Fiqi, security minister in the Galmudug State said army seized vehicles, mortar rounds and weapons were recovered in the midnight operation.
“After number of motor shells hit the town, the Security forces conducted operation outside the town, they came across and clashed with al-Shabaab when the terrorists were shilling the town,” Fiqi said during an interview with the state onwed media.
Fiqi said 13 motor shells landed inside the town but did caused any casualties.
The Somali forces also captured one insurgent who is currently undergoing interrogation in Dhusamareeb town. The military released images and footage of the vehicles, mortars and small arms used by the insurgents during the attack.
The attack comes amid the town is hosting national consultative forum to resolve differences over electoral process.
The forum comprises President Farmaajo and the presidents of the five federal states of Jubbaland, Galmudug, South West, Hirshabelle, and Puntland, as well as the Mayor of Mogadishu.
