MOGADISHU (SD) – At least one person has been killed and more than six others sustained injuries after car bomb exploded in Mogadishu on Saturday.
According to witnesses, a car packed with explosives sped through Dabka junction, prompting the government forces to start shooting at the car.
The vehicle then exploded few metres away from Sayidka Junction outside the Somali parliament compound near the presidential palace.
Somali police spokesperson, Sadaq Adan Ali said the explosion destroyed cars and autorickshaws which were in traffic and park.
“Only one person died in the blast is the attacker, seven people sustained injuries. The explosion destroyed 8 cars and 9 autorickshaws,” the spokesperson said.
No group has claimed the responsibility for the attack.
The explosion comes just two days head of the proposed consultative forum which some of the regional state leaders suggested to be held in Mogadishu.
The meeting which is slated for 15th February will gather the federal and regional leaders to discuss over the electoral process impasse.
