Baidoa (SD) – A technical conference meant to discuss Somalia’s election issues is set to open in Baidoa between technical committees from the Federal Government, Regional Administrations and Benadir Region.
The committees will in particular discuss the implementation of the contentious September 17, 2020 agreement on the country’s disputed elections.
The Federal Government, State Governments and Benadir Region will each have two members attending the conference, the international community is reportedly closely monitoring the discussions.
The committees will discuss the contentious issues in their preliminary meetings, while the leaders will meet once an agreement is reached.
This comes after Puntland and Jubaland regional states recently rejected a conference proposed by president Farmajo in Garowe, calling for the conference to take place in Mogadishu, with other stakeholders.
