Mogadishu (SD) – A Turkish ship was attacked off the coast of Mogadishu, the UK Maritime Trade Union (UKMTO) said on Friday.
The attack, believed to have been carried out by Somali pirates, took place 100 miles off the coast of Mogadishu at around 7:45 am on Friday.
The ship has reportedly escaped the attack, and the crew and ship are now safe.
UK-based maritime risk assessment group EOS Risk Group added that although the ship was flying the Turkish flag, Turkey had not yet released any information about the incident.
The attack comes as the United Nations Security Council has been discussing maritime security for the past two weeks.
Although incidents of piracy off the coast of Somalia have decreased in recent years, yet there are rare attacks.
The recent maritime attack will be the first of its kind since April 2019.
