BOSSASO (SD) -A warship from the European Union naval forces, specifically those assigned to maritime security operations off the coast of Somalia, has arrived near the coastline of Bossaso in the Bari region of Puntland.
Deputy General Director of the PMPF (Puntland Maritime Police Force), Mr. Mahamud Silal Omar, along with senior PMPF officers, held a meeting aboard the ship with the officers of one of the EU warships.
Mr. Mahamud Silal Omar and Admiral Manuel Alvargonazalez Mendez, the commanding officer of the ship, along with other officers, discussed strengthening cooperation between the two sides. They focused on enhancing operations against piracy, illegal fishing, arms smuggling, drug trafficking, combating maritime terrorism, and all activities that threaten security and stability.
During the meeting, they closely evaluated the outcomes of shared intelligence on piracy activities and the successes of joint operations, which have led to early detection and prevention of organized attempts both at sea and on land.
Finally, the PMPF command and the EUNAVFOR Operation ATALANTA emphasized the importance of further improving joint operations and information sharing on maritime security to preempt and prevent maritime threats, particularly piracy and maritime terrorism.
