Hargeisa (SD) – Yusuf Osman Abdulle (Yusuf Sha’ir), a poet from Somaliland, have been appointed to the Somali government’s committee of Somali language experts.

The poet’s name, which appears on the Somali Ministry of Education’s list of linguists, has been widely circulated on social media.

Speaking to the media in Hargeisa, Yusuf Sha’ir confirmed that he has been appointed as one of the Somali experts in the Ministry of Education.

Yusuf Sha’ir confirmed the he accepted the post of Somali education minister.

“I was already working on the language, and now if they tell me since you are a linguist help us, I do not see any problems,” he said.

The poet says the work he is going to be doing has nothing to do with politics.

“I do not see this as political issue and we have not been in contact with the government, and if there is anything more we will let you know,” he said.

The Somaliland government has previously imprisoned those who held positions in the Somali Federal government.
