Hargeisa (SD) – The President and the leaders of the opposition parties in Somaliland today attended the 2021 graduation ceremony of the University of Hargeisa.
Somaliland President Muse Bihi Abdi congratulated Somaliland opposition parties on their victory on the local council and parliamentary elections, adding that they are different from other countries in the Horn of Africa.
“I would like to thank the opposition parties for their resilience. I congratulate them on their hard-won election and for sharing responsibilities with me today. I encourage you to bring good things and build the country together,” he said.
The President of Somaliland called it a victory for the country that the leaders of the parties can attend functions together then compete and congratulate each other.
“Many of our neighbors do not have that. Opposition and the ruling party are both Somalilanders. What is at stake is that I am better than you and I am better than you. Our goal is to be a united Somaliland, a brotherly Somaliland, a non-divided Somaliland,” Bihi added.
Wadani party chairman Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Cirro), said research had shown that 70% of young people in Somaliland were unemployed, adding a clear plan was needed to address youth unemployment.
The chairman said Somaliland has made noticeable progress but more efforts and education is needed to combat youth unemployment.
The chairman of the Somaliland opposition party UCID, Faisal Ali Warabe, said that there is a need for a law to control people who go to Mogadishu, who are against the Somaliland’s independence.
Faisal said the government needs to propose the law and not wait for the parliament to do so.
