Hargeisa(SD)-Somaliland President Muse Bihi received a delegation led by the British Ambassador to Somalia and Somaliland Ben Fender.
The President’s meeting with the British delegation was focused on strengthening ties between Somaliland and the UK, regional security, elections, development projects and talks between Somaliland and Somalia.
President Bihi thanked the British government for its overwhelming support for Somaliland, and told them that Somaliland is committed to strengthening international relations, Also, as for the Somaliland and Somalia talks, the Somaliland government’s position and requirements remain the same as we have told the international community.
On their part, the delegation lauded Somaliland’s progress in holding elections and the public and government’s readiness for the democratic process and elections, according to a statement from the presidential office signed by presidential spokesman Mohamud Ducale.
Also, president Bihi and UK head of international aid for DFID Mr. Damon Bristow signed the second phase of British aid to the Somaliland Development Fund (SDF) to fund development projects in the country, and signed an agreement to develop Somaliland’s energy resources.
The president was accompanied by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Finance Development and the President’s consultant on economic affairs. The head of the UK delegation was the head of the UK office in Somaliland and DFID representative in Somaliland.
