MOGADISHU (SD) – President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo has today met with Somalia’s legal team which attended the announcement of ICJ judgement on the maritime case with Kenya this week in Hague.
The team which included Guled, former Attorney General Dahir Ali, his successor Suleiman Mohamud among others has landed at Mogadishu Airport where they welcomed by government officials including ministers and MPs.
Guled and former Somali ambassador to the EU Ali Said Fiqi were Somalia’s agents in the case.
The delegation was later escorted to where President Mohamed Farmaajo received them.
“We celebrate our victorious Somalia ICJ defense team including Dr. Muna Sharman, late Eng. Mohamed Salihi for their courage, patriotism & defense of our Somali Soil in the maritime case which united us as a nation,” Farmaajo said as he hosts ICJ delegation at Villa Somalia.
The International Court of Justice ruled last week in favour of Somalia in the seven-year maritime case.
The court objected Kenya’s claim of triangular territory in the Indian Ocean and instead declared Somalia was the majority owner of the piece.
Kenya rejected a judgement by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on Kenya- Somalia maritime border dispute.
Oil and gas speculators believe that the 62,000 square mile area is potentially rich in hydrocarbons.
