President Farmajo and Ahmed Madobe meet in Dhusamareb today

Dhusamareb (SD) – Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo and Jubaland President Ahmed Madobe met for the first time in Dhusamareb since the federal government dismissed the re-election of Jubaland’s president.

The meeting, which took place at the Galmudug State House in Dhusamareb, after numerous efforts last night to bring the two sides together.

The meeting was facilitated by Prime Minister Kheyre, Galmudug President Ahmed Qoor-Qoor and Hirshabelle Ware President who all worked hard to bring the two sides together before the opening of the summit.

A brief statement from Jubaland stated: “The President of Jubaland Ahmed Mohamed Islam met with the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo at the Galmudug State House. The meeting was limited to greetings and a hand shake as a prelude to planned talks to resolve the long-running dispute between FGS and Jubaland. ”

The Federal Government of Somalia didn’t publicly acknowledge the two president’s meeting, perhaps fearing repercussions from Jubaland’s opposition in the federal institutions.

One of the things that is expected to be addressed in Dhusamareb is to resolve the dispute between the central government and Ahmed Madobe, which was part of the challenges facing the opening of the conference of Heads of Federal and State Governments.
