Mogadishu (SD) – The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo, in a speech to the people of Somalia on 1 July, commended them for celebrating the 61st anniversary of the independence of the country’s regions and the union of the of North and South.
The President spoke about the history of the Somali people’s struggle for unity and independence, led by efforts of young people who have sacrificed their lives for a better future and a realization of the aspirations of the Somali people.
“This country was divided into two ideologies during the colonial era, namely tribalism and patriotism, and it was won by patriotism which resulted in independence, unity, governance, dignity and full nationhood, thanks to the sacrifice of Somali fighters who defeated the colonial ideology. Today, the patriotic vision is still alive. ” said Farmajo.
President Farmajo urged the Somali people to remain united, togetherness and nationhood which is the only way they can compete with their international counterparts. He described the suffering of the nation as a result of tribalism and division among the Somali people.
The event was attended by the Second Deputy Speaker of the House of the People of the Federal Parliament and Acting Speaker of the House, Abdiweli Ibrahim Mudey, the Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, Mohamed Hussein Roble, the Governor of Benadir Region, Omar Mohamud Mohamed, Ministers, Members of Parliament, youth, women and various segments of society.
