President Farmajo receives British Defense Secretary and discusses security

Mogadishu (SD) – Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo today received at the State House the British Secretary of Defense Ben Wallace accompanied by the British Ambassador to Somalia Ben Fender.

President Farmajo briefed the Secretary on the successful plans of the Federal Government of Somalia in the process of rebuilding the army, security, reconciliation and the fight against Al Shabaab terrorists.

The UK Secretary of Defense also praised the significant progress made by the people and government of Somalia, especially in rebuilding the army and fighting terrorism.

Somalia’s Minister of Defense, Hassan Hussein Haji, who attended the meeting, who briefed the press, said that they agreed to strengthen cooperation between the two countries in terms of security and the fight against terrorism.

“The Somali government is committed to strengthening security in the country and eliminating Al Shabaab terrorists, in collaboration with its international partners, including the UK,” said Minister Hassan Haji.

He added, “The two governments have agreed to intensify the fight against terrorism, improve training and rebuild the Somali National Army.”
