Mogadishu (SD) – Somali police have arrested a young man on the outskirts of Mogadishu for allegedly raping and killing an eight-year-old girl.

The young girl who was raped and killed yesterday afternoon was an orphan living in an IDP camp between Mogadishu and Afgoye.

Somali police spokesman Sidiq Aden Ali said police have successfully arrested a man suspected of raping and killing the girl and were further investigating the crime.

Residents of the area were shocked by the rape on the outskirts of Mogadishu and demanded justice for the victim.

The victim’s family did not yet comment on the horrible crime, and it is not yet known if the alleged rapist and murderer knew the young victim.

In Mogadishu and other parts of the country, there has been a spate of rapes and murders of young girls and women of all ages, and these incidents have been on the rise in recent times.
