President Farmajo signs Indirect Election Agreement into Law

Mogadishu (SD) – The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo signed the country’s Indirect Political Election Agreement, unanimously approved by the House of the People and the Upper House on September 26, 2020.

The President pointed out that the signing of this agreement is a clear demonstration of his Administration’s commitment to the country’s democratization process and the holding of elections based on the Mogadishu Agreement reached between the Heads of State at the Federal and State Levels on 17 September 2020.

“We led the country to an election. Since October 1 of this year, when we signed the Agreement with the Heads of State and Government on the Electoral Procedures Agreement, we have taken steps at the Federal Level to hold the elections and implement all provisions of the Political Agreement on the Directions for the Federal Parliamentary Elections.” said Farmajo

President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo commended the Heads of State and Government of Benadir Region for their efforts in reaching an agreement on the country’s electoral process in Samareb and Mogadishu.

The President of the Republic thanked the Speakers and the Members of the House of the People and the Upper House for finalizing the legal process for the Electoral Agreement.

President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo instructed the Government to increase its efforts in facilitating the holding of elections in accordance with this agreement approved by Parliament, and approved by the President.
