MOGADISHU (SD) -President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, today officially opened the 5th session of the 11th Federal Parliament.

President Hassan reiterated that Somalia is not opposed to mutually agreed-upon negotiations with Ethiopia, and strongly criticized the Ethiopian government.

Furthermore, he responded to remarks made by Abiy Ahmed Ali, stating that Somalia had rejected a maritime request Ethiopia had made.

In his speech, the President mentioned that Ethiopia had disrupted the peaceful relationship between the two countries. He also noted Turkey’s mediation efforts and stated that Ethiopia had requested that meeting. He clarified that Ethiopia still holds its position, while Somalia is ready for dialogue.

Hassan Sheikh Mohamud also urged Somaliland to withdraw from the maritime agreement reached with Ethiopia.
