MOGADISHU (SD)-The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, has called on various officials of the government and regional administrations to work towards the country’s development actively. He emphasized that he is not in favor of extending his term and that the elections will be held on time.
Furthermore, the President stressed the importance of reducing suspicion and fear regarding the country’s situation, encouraging everyone to contribute to strengthening the peace and progress achieved so far.
In his Friday speech, the President also discussed accelerating the fight to eliminate Al-Shabaab from the remaining areas under their control, boosting the economy, and implementing plans for democratization and the electoral process in the country.
Recently, the Somali Cabinet approved a public electoral law, which some view as a move towards extending the government’s term. This is because with only about a year and a half left in Hassan Sheikh’s administration, it is seen as unlikely that a one-person, one-vote election can be organized in time.
