MOGADISHU (SD)-The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, held a telephone conversation with the President of the Republic of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

A press release from the Somali Presidency stated that the two presidents discussed the close relationship between their countries and the importance of regional stability.

President Hassan Sheikh highlighted that Somalia welcomes Turkey’s efforts in mediating and facilitating negotiations between Somalia and Ethiopia.

Villa Somalia further mentioned that President Hassan Sheikh emphasized that any cooperation must respect Somalia’s sovereignty, unity, and national borders, by international law and norms.

Meanwhile, the second phase of the negotiations between Somalia and Ethiopia, with Turkey acting as the mediator, is set to begin tomorrow in Ankara, the capital of Turkey.
