MOGADISHU (SD) -The President of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, has called an urgent meeting of the two Houses of the Federal Parliament of Somalia tomorrow.
The Speaker of the Parliament, Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur Madobe, informed the two Houses at today’s meeting, indicating that President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud would address tomorrow’s session of both chambers and would address the overall situation in the country.
The urgent meeting convened by the president with the two houses of the Federal Parliament is reported to focus on the recent dispute between Ethiopia and Somalia, including Ethiopia’s obstruction of Somalia’s delegation in the African Union Summit in Addis Ababa and other related issues concerning Somalia’s recent diplomatic engagements.
The meeting comes at a critical time, as tensions have escalated following the agreement reached in Addis Ababa between Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and the self-declared republic of Somaliland’s outgoing President Muse Bihi, which included Ethiopia’s acquisition of a portion of Somali territory and waters. This agreement has significantly strained relations between the Federal Government of Somalia.
