DUBAI (QJ) – President of Somaliland, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi (Irro), addressed the issue of Palestinian refugees following statements attributed to former U.S. President Donald Trump regarding the possibility of Somaliland hosting refugees from Gaza.
He emphasized that the U.S. provides political and military support to Somaliland and that his government seeks to strengthen diplomatic and economic ties with Washington. However, he clarified that the U.S. has not yet consulted Somaliland on the issue of accepting Palestinian refugees.
He stressed that any decision on this matter should be preceded by diplomatic consultations. President Irro also reiterated Somaliland’s support for the Palestinian people and their rights, emphasizing the importance of diplomatic dialogue before any action is taken.
The president reaffirmed Somaliland’s Arab identity, stating that his country maintains strong diplomatic ties with several Arab nations and has embassies in some Arab capitals. He expressed Somaliland’s willingness to consult with Arab countries on regional matters, including the issue of Palestinian refugees, to ensure a unified stance that aligns with Arab interests.
He further noted that Somaliland seeks to actively participate in Arab efforts to enhance cooperation and integration, stressing the importance of joint decision-making among Arab nations to achieve strategic goals beneficial to all parties.
