Somalia’s Electoral Commission will investigate the obstruction of political organizations’ meetings

MOGADISHU (SD) – The National Independent Electoral Commission reported receiving complaints from some political organizations after their meeting was disrupted.

In a press statement, the commission did not specify who was responsible for the disruption but stated that they are engaging with relevant authorities to investigate the matter and reach a conclusion.

The commission emphasized that political organizations have the right to hold meetings regarding elections.

This comes after security forces reportedly blocked an opposition party meeting in Mogadishu a few days ago.

Attendees of that meeting included MP Dahir Amin Jesow and politician Abdullahi, who claimed they were prevented from gathering.

The opposition parties have repeatedly accused the Somali government of attempting to suppress their political activities and meetings.
