MOGADISHU (SD)-President of Somalia Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has announced that Ethiopia has taken control of airports and key highways located in the Gedo region. as he stated in an interview with Al Jazeera.

He further stated that since the signing of the agreement between Ethiopia and Somaliland, Ethiopia has recruited and armed over 1,000 militia members from various clans in southern Somalia. These militias have been provided with weapons supplied by the Ethiopian government.

“Ethiopia is not just claiming what is written in the MOU; it has been intervening in Somalia’s internal affairs for many years. Since signing the MOU, Ethiopia has armed more than 1,000 militia members from different clans and groups.

Today, in every part of the South, you can find weapons supplied by Ethiopia. Specifically, in the Gedo region, they have taken over airports and claim they are protecting Somalia’s security. I do not understand the international laws and regulations Ethiopia is relying on,” said President Hassan Sheikh.
