Bossaso (SD) – Al-Shabaab fired more than 20 mortar shells at Galgala village in the Calmadow mountains of Bari region.
The shelling took place on early hours of Monday, killing one Puntland soldier, a Puntland military official confirmed to local media on condition of anonymity.
Neither Al Shabaab nor the Puntland regional government have commented on the latest attack
Galgala village is home to a small population of mostly farmers and Puntland forces with military bases.
Puntland State of Somalia and al-Shabaab have been fighting in recent years in the Galgala Mountains and other regions in Bari region.
Puntland forces took control of Galgala from al-Shabaab in August 2014.
