Puntland: Deni Urges Somaliland to withdraw their troops

Qardho (SD) – Puntland regional President Said Abdullahi Deni, who spoke at the graduations ceremony of a new patch of Puntland military units trained in Qardho today, urged Somaliland to leave the regional states territories.

President Deni said he is committed to defending the territorial integrity of Puntland, which he said the constitution orders him to do so, adding he welcomes any peace efforts.

“We call on Somaliland to honorably leave Puntland’s land, we do not want any bloodshed and we are committed in working towards progress we want good neighborly relationship” he said.

There have been a dispute between Somaliland and Puntland over the control of Sool, Sanag regions, their forces fought bitter wars in the past and are currently within close proximity.

On the other hand , President Deni once again accused the federal government of misusing the international community’s funding on security in Somalia.

“It is unfortunate that the world is spending hundreds of millions of dollars in helping Somalia build security forces and the federal government failed to give Puntland its share, the international community should know funds given to the SFG leaders in mismanaged and that the enemy is everywhere, Puntland after 21 years is building its own army.” Said Deni
