Garowe (SD) – The Puntland regional House of Representatives has today convened to discuss the Federal Government term extension approved by the Federal Parliament of Somalia.
The President of Puntland State of Somalia, Said Abdullahi Deni, and his Deputy, Ahmed Karash, attended today’s meeting of the House of Representatives, briefing lawmakers on the failed electoral process conference in Mogadishu.
Today’s Puntland House of Representatives session was closed to the media, lawmakers voted to oppose the extension of the federal government’s mandate extension.
The Speaker of the Puntland House of Representatives said that 49 members opposed the extension of the Federal government’s term, while one member rejected and two members abstained.
The President of Puntland has rejected the decision of the members of the federal parliament to extend the government’s term by two years, adding the move by the parliament would jeopardize Somalia’s institutions and can create chaos in the country.
