Puntland, Jubaland issue new joint resolution on election dispute

Mogadishu (SD) – The regional administrations of Puntland and Jubaland have finally submitted their members of the Federal Electoral Commission at the State level, according to a released joint statement.

The move was insisted by the federal government and required for a conference, which was also backed by the international community.

Jubaland and Puntland called for a conference on the 30th of this month in Mogadishu, However, they said the federal government is reluctant to compromise.

“The Governments of Jubbaland and Puntland, in view of the critical period, announced their Election Management Committees SIEIT. However, it is unfortunate that the Heads of the Federal Government are reluctant to convene a conference to resolve the dispute over the conduct of the elections in the country”. Said the joint statement.

Puntland and Jubaland said in their joint statement that the international community had played a key role in bringing the National Consultative Leaders together.

Political stakeholders in Somalia are divided over the country’s electoral process, with the president’s term ending on February 08, 2021.
