Puntland parliament accuses federal government of obstructing DP World deal

Garowe (SD) – The Puntland parliament accused the Federal Government of Somalia of obstructing the implementation of the Bossaso port development agreement.

Puntland lawmakers, who met with members of civil society organizations last night, were asked why the DP world agreement had not been implemented.

Responding to questions, lawmakers said the Federal Government of Somalia has obstructed the implementation of the DP agreement.

The DP world agreement signed on 6 April 2017 and approved by the Puntland Parliament on 27 July 2017 has not yet been implemented.

On 12 March 2018, the Lower House of the Somali Parliament declared null and void any agreement reached with DP World, and on 15 March 2018 the decision was approved by the Upper House of Parliament.

It is noteworthy that the Somali government has failed to oppose the DP agreement with Somaliland in developing the Berbera port.
