Hargeisa (SD) – A pregnant woman casting her ballot in yesterday’s election in Somaliland went into labor while in queue and had to be rushed to the hospital.
The mother was visited by Barkhad Jama Batun, a local candidate at the clinic where she gave birth and named her baby boy after him.
Barkhad Batun confirmed the incident to local media and spoke highly of the new mother.
“A Women wanting to cast her vote for me went into labor and has just given birth in Daami Kindergarten, she gave birth to a boy and named him Barkhad, ”said Barkhad.
Wadani party spokesman Barkhad Batun is one of the leading candidates for the House of Representatives and is widely believed to have won a seat and is one of the most talked about campaigners in race.
Somaliland’s Local and Parliamentary election have been postponed twice, marking the seventh in Somaliland since it declared independence from the rest of Somalia thirty years ago.
