GAROWE (SD0 -Today, in the city of Garowe, the capital of the Puntland regional government, the election of the Speaker of the Puntland Regional Parliament took place, following a highly competitive electoral process.

Abdirisak Ahmed Saeed was elected the Chairman of the Sixth Parliament of Puntland’s Regional Parliament defeating three other candidates.

Mohamed Barre Shire was also elected as the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament. He also competed against several candidates for the position.

Mohamed Mahmud Ciise was elected as the Second Deputy Speaker of the regional parliament.

President of the Puntland Regional Government, Mr. Said Abdullahi Deni, congratulated the newly elected Parliament Speaker in the 6th Puntland Regional Parliament.

The opposition presidential candidates have not yet commented on the election of the new parliamentary speaker and his deputies, as they had previously criticized the process of appointing members of parliament.
